| On 11 August 1999, a total eclipse moved across Europe from west to east. Visible just a short distance from major cities such as Paris, Munich and Vienna, the spectacle was seen by millions of people. My family and I visited friends in Vienna with cameras and a small telescope. We drove to nearby Burgenland to watch the eclipse, on the border of Austria and Hungary. As you can see, a few thin clouds interfered with our view of the eclipse, but it was still an unforgettable experience.
